DISTRICT AIDS  PREVENTION AND CONTROL UNIT,  Aizawl District. 

Introduction :

The Department of AIDS Control Organization recognized that the response to HIV epidemic could not be managed centrally, thus its decentralized approach is implemented at the district level through the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU). Based on the vulnerability and magnitude of the HIV epidemic, the districts are categorized as High (A,B)or Low (C,D) . DAPCU are constituted only at the high prevalence districts across the country and operate under the guidance of District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) headed by the District Deputy Commissioner, with a defined responsibility in supporting, monitoring and managing the HIV program and the NACP facilities at the district and sub district level. 

             Among the districts in Mizoram, Aizawl District is one of the two Category A District and is the highest in the state, ICTC data reflects that more than 70 % of the whole HIV detection at ICTCs of Mizoram is from the District. 

Aizawl DAPCU covers undivided Aizawl District ie Aizawl CMO West District and Aizawl CMO East District, Saitual District and a part Reiek District.  At present it supervises and monitors 99 NACP Service centers (Listed Below) spreading across the District,  it ensure smooth coordination  and management of NACP activities and services through these centers, it also aims to create a wider knowledge base in the district for effective prevention, detection, linkages, referrals and treatment strategies through collection and reports analysis, gap identification and program planning, supply chain management and field visits to the various service facilities and  Awareness programs across the District.
